    Artist Statement:

The kernel of corn holds all the potential of life, yet it must die and be consumed before it can grow and produce life. Once mature, the plant form that one kernel can create more life - 10, 50, or even 100 times over, through the fruit.
Likewise, Christ had to die before he could give life, but once he did, all fruit, all the "kernels" or disciples after him all recieved their life only because of him. Christ created new life through his death.
Similarly, every disciple that recieves life from Christ must also die-to-himself. Before we can have fullness of life, we must die so that Christ can give us life and growth.
Now, Christ the first "kernel," is responsible for all life. He is but one kernel and one kernel can only be planted in one place. Thus, it is the respnsibility of his fruit to travel to the four corners of the earth (north - blue corn, east - red corn, west - yellow corn, south - mixed corn) to spread his life, each new kernel producing many times over itself.
All the disciples, the kernels of corn, are focused around the cross, and all of the fruit being in the same family are held together in a basket - all in the one family of Christ.
